Overview:
Music has been a part of my life from as early as I can remember. After graduating from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in 2006 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, I have continued to perform and broaden my range of musical experiences through diverse engagement in both the classical and non-conventional realms. Performing around the world and working with some of today’s brightest and most acclaimed singers, ensembles, and conductors such as Leon Botstein, Dale Duesing, Karen Brunssen, James Hall, Warren Jones, Phyllis Hoffman, Pro Arte, Bard Festival Chorus, Canticum Scholare, New York City Chorale, VOCES8, and many others has been a privilege and immense learning experience. Additionally, I own and operate a recording studio that has allowed me to collaborate with eclectic artists of all styles and genres throughout New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, London and Chicago.
EXPERIENCE
As an educator, I have 10+ years of teaching experience in voice, drums, composition, music theory and ear training. Currently, I teach privately in my home studio and for several local music schools. Starting in the Fall of 2014, I'll be an adjunct professor in Composition, Music Theory and Music Fundamentals at Housatonic Community College.
METHODS USED
My teaching has enabled me to work with young musicians of all ages and skill types. The approach I take is technique driven, while at the same time, expressive, musically sensitive, and fun! Voice students will learn English and foreign language diction, ear training and sight-singing, proper posture, stage presence, confidence, and healthy vocal production suitable for all styles of singing. Drum students will learn the importance of snare drum rudiments, how to read drum charts, the nuances of various styles, as well as, develop dexterity and increase muscular function and independence. I always encourage my students to enter competitions, give a recital, or audition for the choir, jazz band or role they're interested in, so there are always goals to work towards!
LESSON STYLE
The way I've always approached music and teaching is with a sense of humilty and thanks. It is a true joy to be able to pass on the knowledge and lessons I've learned throughout my experience to those who are excited and passionate. To communicate the artistry of great songwriters, composers and performers, past and present, is both a privilege and a challenge. With that in mind, I set realistic goals for my students by teaching basic fundamental techniques and applying them to repertoire that is fun, recognizable, expressive and practical. You will be pushed to challenge yourself and your body and in the end you will be a better musician for it.
