Holds Expert Residency Certification in Music k-12
Hello Music lovers and students,! I am a Rhode Island graduate and native. I have over 20 years of experience as a Pianist, Violinist and Educator in ever. It’s been my life’s passion to connect audiences with the music they love and people with the music they’ve only dreamed of playing. Originally a “concert hall” bound musician, I expanded outwards and grew to have a love for Jazz, Funk, R&B and Rock. My range provided me with the ability to read nearly any piece of music on sight, an ability I eventually took the oceans as a Pianist for Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. I performed with guest entertainers, in Jazz sets and in Production shows in over 24 countries. Since Covid it has been my great pleasure to return to New England, receive Expert Residency in Teaching K-12 and begin studying Production for Sync Licensing and Production. Music is a human phenomenon that everyone has an ability to find their place in.
I began teaching Piano and Violin at the age of 15 to people between the ages of 4 to 65. This eventually moved on to classroom settings for strings and Chorus. One thing Ive learned from all this time is that people want to be able to actually PLAY and have FUN. Music Theory and the Fundamentals are are important but the engagement and the motivation to maintain consistent work over the course of our time together! Any and every song out there can be used to learn the nuances of music making and whatever your favorite style or genre is I can always help.
Methods will be by case to case basis. Children with be asked to purchase the John Thomson Piano Book series as we first dive into reading music notation, learn our Keys, and begin basic music history. If parents are interested I suggest learning alongside children to help with weekly practice. Adults will be depending on resources and goals - What makes you want to take lessons? - Who and what inspired you to do it -What genre are you looking to play *Classical Music ( My expertise) is a lot of fun but can be very demanding, I will not introduce this material unless requested*
Nothing makes me happier than seeing students come back the next week excited and confident about what their learning and the time they put into their practice. I Encourage all students to set realistic goals and aim to create an environment that inspires motivation and interest where it can be found. Learning to play music should never feel like a Job and I will always be here to adapt to any teaching style a student may need to succeed. What do you want to be able to do in 2 years? What would like to be able to do in 10? We will explore all these questions and more.
