Overview:

I have a great passion for music, which I enjoy sharing with others through teaching, performing, composing, and recording. I have played in many different types of ensembles including marching, concert, pep bands, orchestras, pit orchestras, percussion ensembles, drum corps, rock, heavy metal, and country bands, as well as steel drum bands. I graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor or Arts in Music. In 2007, I received my Masters in Music Composition from Cleveland State University. I teach out of the Haddonfield Center and School for the Performing Arts or I can travel to your house.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began with arranging and instructing drum line parts for a youth drum corps. After having children of my own, I realized I had a knack for working with children. I began teaching piano and percussion part-time 8 years ago as a way to share my passion for music.  Nurturing an appreciation for composing and performing music, regardless of style or genre, is what my goal is with every student.

METHODS USED

For beginning students it is important to develop a sense of enjoyment in playing, as well as a sound grasp of the fundamentals.  I encourage students to explore and even compose music that they enjoy and will help them grow as a musician. I find this to be a great way to motivate students to practice and make music fun as well as educational.

LESSON STYLE

I encourage and explain aspects of music theory in addition to playing techniques in lessons.  I like to find out what kind of music my students really enjoy and I integrate that into my lessons. Seeing my students succeed is a very rewarding experience and I tailor my lessons to ensure that sense of progress and accomplishment is developed every week.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
