Associate of Art Degree from Lane CC . I also studied Classical Guitar at Columbia College Chicago.
Overview:
I have been playing guitar for 21 years and teaching for 14 years. I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my High School Jazz Band along with other original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock guitarist Kevin M. Buck where I first learned music theory, which inspired me to be more studious with the guitar. I studied classical guitar in college and received an Associate of Arts Degree in music from Lane C.C. in Eugene Oregon. I also studied Classical Guitar at Columbia College Chicago . I have performed in rock/modern bands for 12 years as an electric guitarist and I'm also currently performing as solo acoustic guitarist.
EXPERIENCE
I have worked as a private guitar instructor for over 8 years at several music education establishments and also independently by traveling to students homes..... I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances. Whenever I've worked for a music school, I've always had to prepare students for recitals and concerts. Whether you are playing an instrument for your school or for casual enjoyment, it's always important to perform in front of people as way of building up confidence.
METHODS USED
For absolute beginners, I like to take some time in the beginning to teach the fundamentals of music which will allow for students to more easily learn songs of their choice while studying which me, and after they have studied with me.
For beginners, I use handwritten tablature, online tablature, and Hal Leonard Instructional Books. For those interested in classical guitar, I use selected pieces from the Christopher Parkening Method Books. If you are wanting to learn for casual enjoyment, I will teach you basic chords, popular riffs and selected songs from classic rock, the blues, pop, folk or modern rock.
