Washington State University, Bachelor of Arts
I've feel honored to have played with members of some very big bands.
My name's Matt, I've been playing guitar since 1986 and have been teaching students music since 1991. When not teaching, I'm usually found practicing or performing with my band onstage or at an open mic night somewhere. I've Networked & Jammed/Played With Many NW Legends including: Roger Fisher- (Heart) Lynn Sorensen- (Bad Company/KZOK's Spike & The Impalers/Paul Rogers) Jeff Kathan- (Paul Rogers Band/ Bad Co./Montrose) Donny Evola- (Queensryche/Geoff Tate/Foghat) Doug Mcgrew- (Geoff Tate/Queensryche) I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. The only thing I think that I'm better at than music, is teaching others to do the same.. & I Absolutely Love It. Because of this, my students get better faster and have way more fun while learning..
I studied music at Washington State University formally, & then many, many years by ear on my own, along with my many teachers.. I have played with small bands, as well as bands that have had some success,. My Specialty - is teaching students the basics 1st, & then how to copy your favorite artists off the CD, almost note for note. Believe me, it can be done. You just have to know what to listen for..
My teaching method is... You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And its what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack. But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's ok too! I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students. That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
I'm more of a "laid back" type of teacher. No whips or teachers rulers here. Music is supposed to be fun!! If you're not having fun, what's the point? After 3 to 6 months, you should expect to be playing some of your favorite songs and artists accurately. Remember- Even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's ok too! I Welcome All Levels and Styles. Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster... I look forward to meeting, teaching, learning, & jamming with you.
