I am a compassionate, creative and effective cello teacher who believes that any student with the excitement to learn can succeed. Currently, I am studying at the University of Colorado Boulder with Professor David Requiro to receive my Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance. In addition to my educational experience, I have also attended several summer music institutes including the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Innsbrook Institute, Online Summer Strings Intensive, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
My teaching experience dates back to high school when I had only a couple of cello students. Since then, I have continued to teach and gain valuable experience both in private and group lesson settings, and with younger and older students. Going into my sophomore year of college, I realized just how much I loved teaching. Having the opportunity to share the gift of music with others in an effective way became one of the joys in my life. At this time, I also decided that teaching would certainly be a part of my music career. With all of my current students, I either teach at the student's home or online using FaceTime or Zoom.
One of my favorite parts about teaching is that oftentimes I learn just as much as the student in the teaching process. For beginner students, I start by working through Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book one for cello. After completing this book of fundamentals, I have the student work through Suzuki books 1-5. Alongside the Suzuki books, I also make sure the student has pieces they can learn for fun. I ask the student if they have any favorite songs or artists and find an arrangement that they can play. Examples of this could be themes from movies, pop tunes, and many more.
I am a firm believer that each and every student with the excitement to learn can succeed. That said, everyone moves at their own pace and responds differently when learning new skills. Therefore, I have learned to adapt to the student and tailor my instruction so that they are comfortable in the learning process. Some students are more quiet than others, but I still encourage my students to ask questions and talk through the problems they encounter. I believe that it is my job to not only teach the student how to play well, but also how to integrate new skills to practice effectively.
