I am a music teacher who loves music! I have studied music at California State University Dominguez Hills and Long Beach City College where I have completed Audio Engineering, Music Theory, History, Literature courses as well as played in numerous ensumbles. I have played as a part of everything from jazz orchestras to punk rock bands. I know how to read music as well as play it loud! My love of music is my number one guide in my teaching style.
I have been teaching for 8 years. I started off in a small studio in Cypress, CA called Music & Arts. Once I refined my skills there I took a job as the Music Director of Education at The Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach. Currently contracted with numerous lesson facilities across Southern California, I know what it takes to make a lesson fun! I have taught students of all ages, from 5 to 70.
We learn the music you want to learn when you study with me! The very first lesson I ask the student what he or she is inspired by. We then work towards those songs, in a step by step gradual process. Along the way fundamentals about rhythm, the musical alphabet and theory are taught within the context of the song we are learnning. This makes the lessons more enjoyable and relatable to the student's deisred outcomes.
My teaching is all about balancing the fundamentals of music with the love of music. We read music, notate music, listen to music, share music, and most importantly practice and play music! Its important to remember that the widest variety of methods utilized in learning yields the most well rounded musician possible!
