Overview:
I am a dedicated instructor who has worked with students of all ages and ability levels. My love for music has led me to perform all over the nation and with some of the best bands and saxophonists in the country. I have taught highly competetive and non-competitive marching band, been the director of summer music programs, worked with at risk students, taught collegiate classes, middle school band, high school band, have held a private lesson studio for the past 10 years and currently teach K-6 general music. My passion for music continues to grow as I now watch former students thrive in the music industry as teachers and performers themselves.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for the past 10 years when I first developed my private lesson studio. This has led me to teach in every facet possible including band, orchestra, choir, marching band, jazz band, pit orchestra, general music and privately. I believe in a little a day goes a long way and developing good practice habits. Students can become incredibly skilled in a short amount of time with proper guidance. The most important aspect of playing an instrument is enjoying what you do. Playing and practicing should never feel like a chore. I hope to inspire, guide, and share my knowledge with students so they may come to enjoy the process of learning an instrument as much as I do.
METHODS USED
I base my materials depending on who my student is, what level they are at, their interests, and their goals. We will focus on building a proper foundation and every aspect of music making including posture, embouchure, breath support, articulation, phrasing, intonation, performances, and more. Every student will have lessons directly tailored toward their needs. I usually begin with a methods book such as the Rubank Elementary Methods, scales, and a solo matching ability level. From there we work on daily, weekly, and long term goals.
LESSON STYLE
Watching my students develop and grow as musicians is one of the greatest joys I have in life. I use positive encouragments while also challenging students to continually improve. Music making is not a race, so I allow students to develop naturally and at their own pace. I try to inspire, encourage, and motivate through leading by example. My favorite aspect of my first teacher was when he would play his instrument along with me. It gave me something to listen and aspire to. I play alongside my students frequently to help give a tonal concept and to help develop better rhythm, articulation, intonation, and musicality.
