2013 - DCI World Champion
Hello future students! I hope you're as eager as I am to get started. If you're looking to drum, look no further. I'm the teacher you've been waiting for. Don't worry, I make learning fun. I try to incorporate the fundamentals of rhythmic accuracy with performance mentality in ways that anyone can understand. And besides, what's the point if you're not here to have fun? Have me teach you, and your proficiency will sky-rocket, and you'll have a blast along the way!
My drum set experience began in elementary school, and continued well past high school. I've performed in a variety of venues on drum set, but my most proficient skills reside in the field of Marching Percussion. I've performed with the Mass Minuteman Marching Band, Carolina Crown, and performed professionally with the New England Patriot's Drum Line. I'm trained in orchestral percussion, having several past performances in Symphony Hall, Boston. I have more than ten years teaching experience with all ages, so step right up!
(Available to bring a drum set to students' homes.) My teaching style caters to the mental constitution of the individual students. However, the lessons themselves generally go around and about the same way. Students are required to bring notebooks, sticks, and a pad. The quality of these items matters not, but their presence are essential. I talk, my students drum, I demonstrate, my students drum more. It's a relationship of show and explain. It's that simple. The content of the discussion is where the difficulty lies, but that's more or less the nature of everything that we'll be doing. Assignments will be optional, as is practice. My philosophy is this: if a student wishes not to practice, it is their freedom to postpone their excellence. I will, however, always bring awareness to this occurrence each and every time it resurfaces.
My methods cater to the mental constitution of the individual students; stylistically, each student receives unique instruction. Everyone learns differently. Better said, everyone takes music lessons for different reasons. Some want to pursue a career in music, and some are learning to play as a hobby. Whatever the reason, I am adamant about form-fitting the lesson program for each particular student, ensuring each student to enjoy every lesson and get the most out of the lesson as possible! My lessons are informal by nature, yet strategically structured to guide each and every student on their own unique path to musical excellence. The most important thing, to me, is that the student gains a newfound confidence with their instrument of choice, a confidence of ownership.
