I have been playing guitar, bass, and drums since I was 15, and have had a passion for music since I can remember. I earned my Associate Degree from Musicians Institute Hollywood. I have had my music placed in popular television shows, such as “The Real World” and “Road Rules”, as well as the film “The Tested.” I have played in groups that were featured as musical guests on the popular late night talk show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in January 2014. We were also featured on the local television programs "Art Zone with Nancy Guppy" and "New Day Northwest". We also featured on YouTube as sponsored artists on EMGtv and Blue Microphones. I also have had the opportunity to share the stage with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, John Mayer, Don Felder, Brandi Carlile, Russell Ferrante, Travis Carlton, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. I am currently teaching online due to COVID, and I play guitar for the group Specific Islands Club.
Electric guitar is my main focus, but I am also very comfortable teaching acoustic guitar, electric bass, and ukulele. I specialize in rock, blues, pop, metal, reggae, r&b, and acid jazz. I have experience creating and teaching curriculums for students (ages 7-12) in an afterschool program called PRIDE. I also have been giving private lessons in guitar, bass, and ukulele for about 12 years now, 4 of those years being in person at local shops and in home lessons, teaching students as young as 5 and as old as 85! It's never too early or too late if the student shows genuine interest for music! I love sharing my love for music and genuinely enjoy seeing the growth of knowledge and skill in my students!
I want to give the student what they want! I try to understand the students' short and long term goals first, then make a list, so we can check those off. If the student doesn't know what they want, then I generally want to set short term goals and go through the basics- chords, scales, rhythm, theory, proper hand posture etc. I try to encourage proper mechanics and fundamentals to beginner students as well. I also recommend working on at least one song selected by the student (preferably) or myself, so that we can work on part specific material and technique etc. I find this process very rewarding for the student, and helps them progress a lot faster.
Everybody learns differently and at different paces, and I prefer to cater to those individual styles. The one thing I find both rewarding and beneficial is to learn (or work on) at least one new song or lick for each session. I also encourage the students to keep a journal of songs and licks, just to help visualize and remember all that they have learned. The most important thing is that the student continues to grow in their passion for music! I will do my best to help and guide the student in their own musical journey :)
