Bachelor Degree: Mcnally Smith College of Music
I was raised in Vero Beach Florida, and began playing guitar and piano at age 10. I graduated from the Schumann School for the Visual and Performing Arts, part of the Indian River Charter High School system. There afterward I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend McNally Smith College of Music where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance in 2015. I have been teaching guitar, bass, ukulele, and piano for 10 years at in home and studio locations. I am also a professional guitar and piano player in the South Florida, playing and touring with numerous bands and artists. Performing and recording credits include: Shelia E, Jason Derulo, Selah, One Drop, Kurt Stevens, Kimberly Brown.
I began teaching about 5 years after I began playing guitar and piano. I started by teaching private lessons for local students my age and then slowly worked up to teaching in a music store for all ages and skill levels. I have had experience in many different environments from being a small private instructor traveling to students homes to working in private music studios and schools and also being on-staff teaching group classes at the collegiate level. I enjoy the teaching experience at all levels and environments. I like to emphasize progress in small intervals and continued interest through fun and self confidence with the instrument.
I have experience teaching all ages and skill levels. For every student I construct a personalized lesson plan that spans a three month interval with the student's goals as the main priority. From this the student is able achieve goals in multiple areas of their instrument and musicianship in small amounts of time. I will use books and material that corresponds with the students age and skill level on the instrument.
Some items that I often cover and emphasize in my lessons are: Improvisation using scales, arpeggios, and motifs. Sight-reading single notes lines, chords, and rhythmic notion. In standard notation, TAB notation, and diagram format. Ear training, using intervalic and Solfege methods. Live and in studio performance skills. Repertoire in multiple styles and themes. Along with memorization techniques. Specific instrument techniques ranging from beginner to advanced.
For every student I construct a personalized lesson plan, I enjoy the teaching experience at all levels and environments. I like to emphasize progress in small intervals and continued interest through fun and self confidence with the instrument. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson with large 3 moth lesson plans for overall growth and improvement. I want my students to continue paying the instrument no matter their goals or plans for the future. Weather they are looking to just play for fun as a hobby or to play in their local church band or youth group or even pursue being a professional musician I want the student to grow and improve and have fun with music and the instrument.
