ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BM, Temple University, Music Education (Instrumental Concentration)
Overview:
I graduated from Temple University in 2011 with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education.  I was a saxophone major, but I have also studied piano since the age of three.  I enjoy performing in musical pits, which is where I picked up the flute and the clarinet.  I am currently a choral teacher at the high school level, but I have previously taught in a K-8 school, as well as several years in a daycare setting with very young students. Teaching has allowed me to spread my passion and love of music to the next generation of musicians, and I can honestly say I absolutely love my job!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching private lessons during my summers off from college, just a few students at a time.  Since beginning my teaching career, my focus has shifted slightly to group piano classes, while still teaching privately after school.  I have been a student of private instruction since the age of three, and my experiences in my private lessons have shaped the way I structure my own lessons for students.  I firmly believe that my students need to not only study solo repertoire, but also that they spend some time every week focusing on technical exercises to solidify their musical foundation.  Once this foundation is strong, then it is up to the student to choose the direction they want to go in their lessons, based on their interests and goals.
METHODS USED
For piano students, I like to use the Alfred courses.  This method is great because they have courses of study for all ages and levels, and students can progress through several courses throughout their study.  For flute/clarinet students, I like to start with either Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or the Rubank methods books.  Once students have moved beyond the basics, I like to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their level.  I will also pair the solo material with technique exercises designed to solidify their fingerings, scales, rhythm reading, etc, that will enhance their ability to play their solo pieces.
LESSON STYLE
I like to have a balance in my lessons between fun and challenge.  I do this by setting realistic goals each week for my students, dependent on their level of perfomance and the pace that they are progressing.  Not everyone will progress at the same pace, and I feel that it is more important for a student to master a particular lesson than to move quickly through the lesson book.  I want my students to be able to experience the satisfaction that comes from working hard at something.  My ultimate goal is to not only foster a love and appreciation of music in my students, but also to develop a strong work ethic and sense of accomplishment.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
