I am a very driven teacher. I love to push my students to be the best they can be! I am a third year undergraduate music performance student currently going to the University of Tennessee Knoxville acquiring my Bachelors of Music degree! One of the most rewarding things in teaching is seeing my students grow. I am so passionate about music and its purpose in life, and if I can relay those beliefs into my students then I feel like I have done my job. I want my students to feel safe and welcome in my studio. I teach students not only how to play the violin but also how to be positive additions to society!
I am still a new teacher, and I feel that I can learn as much from my students as they can learn from me. Collaboration is very important to me. I want to give my students a voice as to what they want to learn and try to push them to have insightful practice time. I began teaching in high school, but this past year I began teaching at the Joy of Music School in Knoxville! It was a great experience and was also all online! So I have experience teaching both in person as well as online! I am always open to new ideas and new students to teach!
I use the Suzuki method for beginners! Once they reach intermediate level I start incorporating more etude books and a wider range of repertoire. I also teach beginners a lot of singing so they can really listen for intonation at an early stage. Listening skills are very important to me as well as music theory! I start giving worksheets to my students as soon as they start with me. The worksheets get more difficult as they get more advanced. I believe that having a clear understanding of what the composers are doing aids in the overall performance of the music!
Something that I really strive for in my teaching is inspiring young musicians. I believe that music is such an imperative part of society that also provides life skills that people will carry with them for the rest of their lives. I want to be able to not only produce technically advanced students but also very expressive students! Musicianship is a very important skill for students to learn; so, starting from the beginning being as expressive as possible will help in understanding how to be expressive!
