AA in Music, Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance, BA in Classics: County College Morris, William Paterson University, Montclair State University.
Overview:
I am a performer, and also a music historian. I try to teach my students the aspects of performing, and technique, as well as the history and culture of the music they will learn.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching all age ranges for 10 years. My goals are to make technique and performance perfect, and also have an understanding of the music in its time period and what the composer would want. I also encourage students to write their own music, and also improvise.
METHODS USED
Violin/Viola: String Builder, Strictly Strings, Introducing Positions, Wohlfahrt, Sitt, Kayser, Fiorillo, Kreutzer, Flesch, etc. Cello: String Builder, Strictly Strings, Introducing Positions, Klengel, Popper, etc. Piano: Thompson's Methods, Piano Pieces for Children, Alfred's scales and arpeggio exercizes Voice: Vocalises, 24 Italian songs and arias, Vaccai, Marchesi, Lutgen, supplemental exercizes, English, German, Italian, and French diction.
LESSON STYLE
My method is basically laid out in the following format. While I try to adhere to this, everyone is different and I do tailor the lesson to the individual. 1) Technics 2) Lesson Books 3) Etudes 4) Solo piece 5) Accompanied piece. To learn applied music is something that anyone can and should do, and there should be no discrimination where age or individual ability are concerned. It is one of the things most people are either very grateful to have learned, or something they universally regret not learning in life.
