Onondaga Community College, Music Theory, Professional Bass Performance and Touring.
Teaching music and individual lessons, 20+ years of experience.
Dean's List, Signed to a Record Label and Toured with an Act for years out of Austin, Texas, years of professional playing experience.
I fell in love with music at a young age, hearing relatives sing and play, and began taking guitar and bass lessons as a teen. I then majored in bass and music at Onondaga Community College, which is known for it's music program. I have had the opportunity to tour the country with a band out of Austin, Texas, as a signed professional musician with a national act. I recorded a love show for XM Radio, and have had a song played on NPR. Links to be provided soon. I therefore have been able to play many famous venues from the East Coast to West, and I am thankful for that.
I love teaching the individual. My first instructor wanted to know about me, my likes and my goals, and that is the approach I like to take for each student, whether they want to perform live, or need to prepare for a college audition, or anything in between. I taught a class of children around the age of 6, and an older class as well for a while at a private school in Arkansas. It was a joy teaching both age groups. I was able to infuse theory and appreciation into learning songs that they loved.
I like to talk with my students and / or their parents, and discover what their desired end result is, or their interests. I then tailor my lesson to meet their needs. Sometimes, as you are going along in your lessons, you learn more about your student, and can make adjustments. Depending on age and level, I'll make sure they know everything from proper care and holding of the instrument to theory. I have many materials to take from, and have worked with such authors as Mel Bay and Bunny Brunel, to name a couple.
As I said, I do love to teach the individual, and after discovering their goals, use the approach that I believe will work best for them. I have many books that I use, and have worked in the past with Bunny Brunel and Mel Bay. With the instruments I teach, there are many different avenues that one could be wanting to take, from learning more theory, getting into Jazz Band at school, performing popular music live, or auditioning for college. This is why I take a versatile approach in my teaching, and in describing my instruction methods.
