2003-Dipolma in Social Music from the Guild Assocation
I am passionate about teaching music. For as long as I can remember, I love sharing the joy of music with others. I have studied piano for 15 years under private lessons and chose my concentration for my Liberal Studies BA to be music. Music is not just a passion for me, but is also part of my soul. It allows me to express myself through song instead of using words. My greatest joy is to share that with students and help them find out more about themselves through music. I have also sung in the Concert Choir at Fresno Pacific University from 2005-2007, and after that in the San Joaquin Chorale from 2008-2011, and 2013-2014.
My teaching experience began when I was a senior in high-school My sister had taught a few students in our neighborhood and asked me to take on her students when she moved away to attend college. I gladly did and discovered my love and passion for teaching. I taught consistently from 2003-2005 in Gilroy, until I attended Fresno Pacific University. I took a brief hiatus from teaching to focus on my own studies, but began teaching again in 2008-2011. I have recently agian started teaching in the fall of 2014 after being on a medical hiatus. I have grown in helping my students develop a strong sense of technique, rhythm and develop a strong classical backgound while also continuing to help students develop a sense of who they are throughout thier music. I desire students to have a strong foundation in technique but also make sure that they pursue a genre that they love and are passionate about. I have taught students from ages 5 to age 40 and am always looking to expand my horizons, as long as students are motivated to learn and looking to develop a love for music.
For beginning students who are childern, I use Nancy Faber's Primer and Level One matieral. As soon as they develop a strong foundation using technique, theory, and a basic knowldege of what it means to play piano, I introduce them to a genre that they are passionate about for recital work: whether it is based on a movie, a favorite pop star, or a classical musician. For adult students, I work with Alfred Adult Basic Level One materials which give students a firm grasp on what it means to play the piano, technique, and theory. I also seek to engage students, find out what they are intesrted in and help them pursue that passion as well.
Seeing my students develop thier own love for music is something that thrills me to my very core. If I have helped a student convey who they are through music, and have them become excited to share that with others, I have done my job well. I will work with each student to set goals for their piano career, and seek to find out what drives thier passion and love for music so that they can be fulfilled.I will talior my teaching style fo fit each student's needs Each student is challenged to practice a minimum of 4-5 times a week 30-60 minutes for each time because practice inspires passion.
