I love to work with students. I‘m a composer, pianist, conductor, and certificated teacher (in my country). I have been playing piano for 23 years, and have been playing flute for 17 years. I am familiar with music theories and traditional music history from the ancient and medieval to the twenty-first century in details as any other professional composer, so if you are curious to listen to a story or even gossip of someone like Bach, Haydn or Mozart, I can tell you one sometimes. As a performer, I was asked to play as principal flutist in my middle school wind band and was also admitted to Piano Major in the first two years of my Bachelor's Degree. I was one of the best pianists in my undergraduate school and switched to the composition and theory major to learn more knowledge (piano GPA was preferred to be high by most composition professors to accept this switching). I also have a teacher license issued by the Education Community by my country, and this license is required if anyone in my country wants to be hired by the government as a teacher. I was commissioned by Maryland University and Bowdoin College Museum to write music for them, and also cooperated with a director and had written music for two of her movies.
I had worked with a public primary school’s students and had some experience to work with 6 classes (each contains 60 students) before I earned a Bachelor's Degree during required practical training. Through explaining music knowledge to children from 6-year-olds to 12-year-olds I learned to communicate with people with patient explanations and the deep understanding of people’s situations. I taught Keyboard, Baroque Harmonicas, Singing and very basic Music Theory in the primary school. I also taught advanced music theory online and have experience explaining principals to a person on the computer.
For the beginner who is 11 or younger, I start with John Thompson's Piano Courses to make sure the student familiar with all necessary elements of music. Then I will introduce some music that helps developing fingers appropriately and beautiful at the same time, such as Lemoine and Burgnlueller. For students who is 12-17, I start with teaching small and fun pieces, and ask their preference at the same time, then adjust my classes accordingly. For adults, I will ask their preference and set my classes to make the students being on the right way to reach their goal. For flutists, I can help you with different styles, including but not limited by pop, classical, folk, and contemporary classical. I can also offer you an improvising piano accompany on the class if needed as I'm also a pianist, composer, and a conductor.
I see highly of student's interest and passion for music. I will design different class progress according to their own situations. I will also advise reasonable goals that students can improve gradually. Fundamental is important for any study. In my experience, the fastest piano sight reader usually has a reliable early experience that improving step by step. However, I will give you all the keys you need to enhance as much progress as you can, and analyze the probably time and energy you need to involve to next step with you.
