I began playing piano at the age of 5. Over the years, I developed my skills further by my professional learning in Conservatory. I gained performance experience in the piano performance area by playing at such venues as a soloist and with acts such as an ensemble performer. Though I can teach many genres of music, her musical personal favorites are classical music which had a great influence on my style of playing. I also have been collaborated with different instrumentalists-violinist, cellists and singers for 3 years. Except solo performance on piano, I also regard myself as a collaborative pianist.
I love music because it has been a part of my life and loves teaching music because I want to share my performing experience with others whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional. As I began teaching students 3 years ago, to help my friends and their children on piano performance, I also had one class and get certificated from my college in the field of piano pedagogy of intermediate students. It gave me a different experience on how to teach professionally in music major and be personalized in teaching different people. Encouraging my students with regular practice on their repertoire and inspire them to be creative during practice is my idea to emphasize for intermediate students and youngers, it tends to help them explore more in music and gain their passion for the instrument. Music is not only a subject, but it is also a universal language for people to be together.
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with an early child song, teaching them about the pitch, rhythm and also lead them to sing and clap. Then teach them staff, and how to write musical notes down on the staff. I'll introduce the method book-Faber piano adventures to them, lead them to have a basis of the fundamentals, that's the step for them to learn some simple repertoire appropriate for their first performance. For adults, I will ask what kind of music they're interested in and guide them to start with learning that music first to create a fun lesson, and learning notes and etc.
The most important thing for me is to see my students could find their favorite pieces and develop a passion for music, that's the basis for them to progress at their pace. Also, I will help to set up weekly goals for my students, to encourage them to arrange their practice. So during that process, they will recognize the importance of accomplishments and encouragements to keep their passion for music, to desire to learn more and make more progress on the path. Always be inspired to my students, to know their needs.
Mengyu is a great teacher, I've learned with her for 1 year and have a great progress on piano, her patience and encouragement on me, make me more confident on music what I'm playing. Also I appreciate her personalized lessons to help me build up my repertoire.
