Overview:
I am a full time performing, recording & teaching musician in Los Angeles. My trumpet can be heard on platinum-selling albums, major motion picture scores, hit TV series', and all over the world in live concerts. I have toured the world performing and have achieved two degrees in music before settling in LA. I can teach you anything you want to know about music from the most basic to the extremely abstract. Music theory, composition, history, industry; you name it! I've got you covered. My students have made the California All-State honor and jazz bands and some have even gone on to pursue careers as professional musicians. I look forward to meeting you and helping you along your journey!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching during my sophomore year of high school with private trumpet lessons. Since then, I have taught college courses in music performance, history, composition, and music theory, and continue to teach private trumpet lessons from the beginner level up to my current college students. I have gone on to be a seminal figure in the trumpet community around the world. I have embarked on solo tours as well as with a 90 piece orchestra. I have been to over 65 countries and 49 states all because of music. Although I plan to one day travel to Alaska, I'd prefer it be for a gig!
METHODS USED
For beginners, I start with a mixture of the Suzuki method and the Essential Elements book. I find that combining ear training while simultaneously developing the ability to read music only accelerates the learning process. Teaching adults of any level are all about assessing interests and goals. I find out where the interest in creativity lies in every individual and work on developing that so the lessons remain fun and fulfilling. Daily practice is required to experience growth as a musician, so don't be surprised if we spend time writing down your individual practice goals.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is catered to the pace and interests of the student. Small achievements are the keys to great success, and acknowledging these achievements is essential to maintaining interest in learning music. I work together with students to find and set short term, midterm, and long term goals so that visible growth of their abilities can be observed, tracked, and appreciated. Through this process, anything can be achieved. Keeping a journal with dates, times, goals, practice logs, and general notes about your experiences can be extremely helpful along the path to mastery.
