My name is Michael P., I am from Victorville, California. I am 23 years old and my biggest passion is music! I went to Berklee College of Music and graduated with a bachelors in Bass Performance in 2021. I have recorded an album during the pandemic all from my bedroom with fellow classmates. Our band name is Champagne Charlie and the Wah Wah's, we are influenced by The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, and The Beach Boys. I have played in many bands while I was at Berklee, I played in a Jazz quintet, Country Band, R&B bands and many rock groups. I enjoy listening and Playing all types of music.
I have been teaching for a little over 2 years and I enjoy passing my knowledge along to everyone. Music is a huge part of my life, I started playing music when I was 9 years old. I taught myself how to play: Guitar, Bass, Upright Bass, and Tuba. My dedication made me able to get into my dream college right after high school which is Berklee College of Music which is located in Boston Massachusetts. My main instrument is the Electric Bass, I have studied with amazing professors and professional bassists such as: Victor Wooten, Gary Willis, Steve Bailey and John Patitucci just to name a few.
I like to see what type of music you like and base my lessons around that specific band or style. I will make transcriptions of a song that you've always wanted to learn and we will go over it together. I think playing stuff that you are interested in makes learning music so much more rewarding, you will have to learn the basics like scales, hand positions, and specific techniques but doing it while not thinking you're doing tedious work is so much more fun. I also have a few books that I like to go through to help you get an understanding of reading music and tablature.
My teaching style is very free like, I like to make sure you are using your ear when you're playing. When I say use your ear it means active listening to what is being played. When you are a bass player you and the drummer are locked in as a unit, I will go more into that in a lesson. Hearing chord progressions and understanding where to play and when to play is the difference between a good player and a great player. I love reading music as well and also think it is an important skill to have. Music is supposed to be a fun thing to do and not a chore.
