I currently do not have and degrees or cridentials. I am continuing to grow as a professional drummer and drum teacher in many aspects.
Awards:
I do not have any awards from a school/ University just yet.
Overview:
At the age of nine I began my interest in drums in particular. My father was a great pianist, choir director, teacher, vocal instructor, and all around musician. So growing up in this atmosphere has helped me through the years. I have been officially a drummer since I turned ten, and have continued to play in church, bands ( including my own) and for different events of different styles. Music is what I'm persuing as a career, along with teaching. I have been teaching for the past 8 years or so and have taught in schools, camps, and more. I currently live in Pasadena, CA and working on expanding as a drummer, teacher, and student.
EXPERIENCE
I have now been giving private lessons for around 8 years and enjoy it very much. I love to help people grow and watch them enjoy the gift they have. In my lessons, students learn techniques, concepts, musicianship, rudiments/fundamentals, and much more. I resigned from a job in 2015 to pursue my music career which includes teaching drums. I have a passion that I will always be greatful for, and I'm happy to say that the right doors are opening for me to teach in many different places. Before I am a teacher, I am a student and will forever be. The more I learn, the more I teach.
METHODS USED
Whether my new students are children or not, I will usually start from the basics and work our way up from there. With children, I will stretch the basic lessons further until they have a solid foundation to build on. I write out every single lesson plan by the date and have each student do the same so that we do not lose track of where we are. Eventually we learn different styles of interest, but basic technique and rudiments are usually what we build on first. I like to have as much fun as possible, while challenging us both at the same time.
LESSON STYLE
One thing I love to do is understand the kid I am teaching. Because I love to teach, it makes me happy to see my students enjoy what they learn, and that is why it is important to me to develope good teaching habits and a good sense of direction. I like my students to have fun learning, and feel comfortable growing without limiting themselves. I also try to be as organized as possible. Every student will need a pencil and paper to keep track of dates, lessons and even "drum vocabulary/terminology". After learning basic rudiments and developing a solid foundation as a beginner, we will move on to preffered styles and will then develope the right techniques and grow as an all around drummer.
