I am a new and passionate instructor who would like to share my musical knowledge with prospective students! I've been performing since I was 6 years old and have been playing the guitar for 4 years. In that time I have acquired a lot of skills and learned things that I wish I had been taught at the beginning. I am studying to be a music producer and composer at Full Sail University and will be graduating this summer. I am a very passionate musician and I am mostly self-taught on the guitar and bass, but I have gained the skills to now play live confidently. I want to teach through the method of learning real music so new guitarists can feel like they are actually progressing by playing the songs they like, while steadily introducing more advanced guitar techniques. Learning should be fun and engaging!
I am new to teaching but I have worked as an organizer and choir leader in my high school and college, giving me the experience I need to have an organized curriculum for new students that is interesting and actually impactful. I aim to teach younger beginner guitarists how to best pick up the instrument and learn by playing the songs that they actually like! Breaking them down so they understand the music, but also feel like they're learning the necessary skills to pick up and play any song they want in the future and perform confidently. I want my students to be motivated by their own interest in the music they're learning and have fun while getting through the fundamentals. Helping them feel like they're achieving milestones technically and have something to show for it!
My methods are to introduce an easy-to-understand base in music theory and applied music by explaining it based on how the music makes us feel. For beginners who are children, I begin with the essential topics such as how to hold the instrument and how to play simple scales and exercises. Once they are ready, we can begin introducing simple songs and chords that teach the fundamentals in a fun and engaging way. I always adjust my approach depending on the pace of the student, making sure that they are not moving too slowly or fast.
I want to make sure that I foster a love and enjoyment for music in my students. Fun is the best motivator and practice is key so I hope to present my lessons in a way that makes practice an enjoyable part of the process. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students so that it feels like they are making good progress. I am never rigid in my teaching style, however! My first priority is to listen to the students and find what brings out their passion in our lessons by experimenting with a variety of exercises and activities.
