ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
BA Music, American University/Amsterdam Conservatory of Music
Overview:
I have always had a passion for music and have worked hard to be able to enjoy playing it today.  I understand what it takes to get enjoyment out of music and above all else I try to get my students to enjoy it as well.  After studying at American University and Amsterdam Conseratory of Music I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Music Performance in 2013.  While studying in school and since graduating I have never stopped teaching, and I have the proper combination of experience and skill needed to make fun and informative lessons for students.
EXPERIENCE
In 2012 I started teaching students in their homes.  I quickly learned the ins and outs of teaching and have never looked back.  In the fall of 2013 I gained additional experience while teaching music to kids at Ideal Day Care center.  At first I was unable to engage the students, but soon I was the star teacher at the day care center.  Watching their faces light up every time they saw me was truly one of the best experiences of my life.
METHODS USED
Piano: For beginning students who are children, I start by teaching out of the Faber Piano Adventure books.  I find that they focus on the more exciting aspects of music, such as sight reading.  This is different from the Bastion books which I think focus too much on more challenging (and boring) methods such as articulation.  The Faber books are great because they have fun short songs that the student can play with the teacher in a duet. Trombone: Practice, practice, practice!  The trombone is an extremely unforgiving instrument and this is why the words “practice” need to be repeated many times every lesson.  The student needs to understand that in order to get any enjoyment out of playing the trombone they need to practice regularly.  Once the student has a regular practice schedule, then their sound will improve and they will enjoy playing.  There can be almost no progress at all until the student finds regular practice time to work on their trombone exercises.  I practice trombone every day and I try to guide students towards figuring out how to get the most out of their practice time.
LESSON STYLE
I combine patience with an upbeat demeanor to provide entertaining and informative lessons for students.  I want my students to improve and I understand that in order to improve I need to motivate my students.  Kids see results working with me and that is why they enjoy the lessons.  Soon they find themselves wanting to practice on their own time and really love the experience seeing themselves grow as a musician.  I enjoy working with kids and kids enjoy working with me.

Michael is good! He's on time, flexible, and patient. He is professional and knowledgeable of piano. I've had a trial session and four in-home lessons with Michael. At this point, I'd recommend him to others.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
