2010 - MMTA Piano Competition Finalist
I'm a music lover through and through! I have been involved in music my entire life and have recently moved to Miami for work. I grew up in chilly Minnesota and am loving the Florida heat so far. I went to school out east at Brown University where I studied Linguistics. While at school, I spent time traveling abroad, and spent a semester studying at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where I picked up ballroom dancing (I can't stay away from music!). I love teaching piano, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
I have been teaching piano for a few years now, and have been involved in music my entire life. I took piano lessons while growing up, and continued independent study during my time in and after college. Alongside piano, I grew up doing musical theatre, was in as many choirs as I could fit into my schedule, and loved music theory. In my teaching, my number one priority is ensuring that my students are enjoying their time learning and that they are working towards a goal that they are interested in.
Learn to play a song by the end of your first lesson! Piano is a great way to introduce yourself to music and form (or strengthen) your musical foundation. I specialize in beginning and intermediate level students! I firmly believe that it is never too late to learn to play the piano. :) I believe in a technique-driven approach that builds a strong foundation, while also having fun and ensuring that my students enjoy the process and get to play the songs they want to learn. It's no fun thinking about committing to years of lessons before you're able to play anything enjoyable. I do my best to make sure that my students are working towards the music they love and enjoy while also developing their skills. Lessons are tailored to your strengths and weaknesses for a well-rounded approach to note-reading, ear training, theory, and technique. All ages are welcome!
I have been teaching piano for a few years now, and it's one of the most rewarding activities I've ever done. There is nothing more enjoyable for me than watching a student grow and learn and succeed! I have tons of patience with my students (unless they want me to be more strict!). I believe that piano lessons should be enjoyable above anything else. I have heard of so many students who have been afraid of their teachers, which makes me so sad. I strive to give my students a positive, no-stress experience from the beginning!
