Ever since I was a kid, I had a passion for mentoring and tutoring. Nothing makes me feel as fulfilled as a long day of teaching, having fun with my students and helping them make progress both in their musical studies and development as people. As a performer, my career encompasses anything from classical and jazz concerts to musical theater productions and studio recording sessions. I am constantly looking for new ways to contribute to my craft and find new outlets for performing. In 2010, I founded a music publishing company, which provides sheet music and recordings for professional saxophonists and advanced students.
I began teaching during my undergrad work and now have over 9 years of experience providing private lessons in saxophone, clarinet, flute, music theory, and conducting. I have worked with students from elementary school through college as well as adults, and in addition to my private studio, I am also the resident woodwinds instructor at 3 community music schools in the LA area. My main aim as a teacher is to enrich the lives of my students, whatever their specific goals. Studying music can grant anyone an opportunity to develop competitive study skills and work ethic, and can have far reaching influence in all kinds of seemingly-unrelated subjects. Most importantly, making music should be fun and rewarding!
I can provide solid foundations for new musicians and detail-oriented polishing for advanced players. For those beginning an instrument with me, I draw from Rubank or Essential Elements methods and customize my lesson plan based on the needs and interests of the student. For students pursuing jazz, I use The Goldman Method, which provides a systematic and easy to follow program that quickly produces results.
First and foremost, I endeavor to contribute to a students' personal development, regardless of whether or not they intend to pursue music their entire lives. I hope to educate audiences as well as musicians, and ultimately, I want to share my love of music with as many people as I can! I love it when students have ideas about specific songs they want to learn or draw inspiration from, and use their interests to individually tailor their lessons.
