I am an incredibly spirited and determined musician and educator who takes great joy in sharing music with as many people as I can. I am currently working on a BME from Indiana University, and while I still have a long way to go, I know full well in my ability to demonstrate my talent as a musician and educator. Performing all over the country has been one in a long list of wonderful and highly impact performances in my time as a musician, and I have played in settings ranging from Lucas Oil Stadium to IU's very own Recital Hall. I hope to further myself and those around me by taking on students, and I have not a doubt in my mind that everyone is a musician at heart.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates as far back as my high school days, as I began giving lessons to 6th graders almost 6 years ago. Since then, I have taught and met with dozens of students, and helped them flourish as musicians, teaching both as a partner in local schools and out of my own home. The skill levels at which I teach range widely, as I have taught both beginners, learning how to hold their instrument for the first time, to advanced players almost better than me! I like to capitalize on making sure a student is setting proper goals and is achieving them at a consistent, healthy, and fun pace. If my students are not enjoying themselves then I do whatever I can to change that! I am always ready to teach for all ages!
METHODS USED
For the newest of players who may also be children, I usually begin teaching out of The Yamaha Advantage series for beginners. Once the student has demonstrated a strong understanding of the fundamentals of brass playing, I will begin introducing them to different solos, scales, and other repertoire in the hopes that they may want to perform in competition or recital. For more advanced players, I try to find out what the student's specific goals are, and work with them to best achieve said goals. I have a plethora of etudes, solos, and other material to keep them interested in building up their abilities.
LESSON STYLE
Few things are as rewarding for me than being able to witness one of my students thrive in the performing arts! Therefore, it is important that my students have as much fun as possible and can feel accomplished achieving firm, yet reachable, personal goals. Acknowledging accomplishments helps students feel valued and like their efforts are worth something - fostering a readiness to learn more. I want to do whatever I can to help my students achieve greatness - however they may see fit. By trying to find out what inspires my students, I can successfully engineer my instruction to their wants and needs.
