BA- Music Business & Music Production. Berklee College of Music.
Awards:
1st place, music solo piece (Drums). 2009.
Overview:
My name is Mike. I have been playing drums from the age of 3. I have a passion for music and the arts like no other. I have also been blessed to attend THEE Berklee College of Music and graduate from there as well. In the four years that I was able to participate in attending Berklee, the amount of knowledge and relationships that we were priveledge to experience is incredible. We were also able to put of a few videos which can also be found on youtube. Those are some of our best pieces of work. One of the proudest things I was ever able to be a part of.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music since I was in High-School. My mentor and fellow drummer, is my main influence. He goes by the name of Nate Barnes. I have been playing for 20 years now. 18 years professionally. My first time playing live was at the age of 5. I am excited to begin teaching students about the art of music and in this case, drums. Here, we’ll have fun, enjoy the tasks at hand and build great future musicians. Locally and internationally known. I will always give back what was given to me. The world needs music, we wouldn’t be who we are individually, without it. Lats keep it going !
METHODS USED
There are many different ways to teach. Som of my methods are as follows. 1- Freestyle. Feeling a certain rythm and figuring out how and what to play as far as that genre goes. 2- Feel. Understanding the undertone of music and how it should be felt by a listener or an audience. 3- Placement. This is the art of putting different little embelishments, in music, and in songs. It halps the music to progress and gives it different dynamics and vantage points in which the musician can be felt and heard. 4- Hearing. It is important that musicians are able to not only play well, but also gel with other musicians. Chemistry is important on stage. Wherher its with a lead singer or just a rhythm section. There must be some type of cohesiveness that’ll allow a song to flow smoothly.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is very simple. We will begin by finding the interests of the student. Then we’ll identify what they like about the instrument and their basic knowledge. Once that is done, we’ll begin experimenting with different generes. And finally, we’ll create a plan that will allow them the chance to grow musically and fundamentally on the drums. This in total, will give myself and the student(s) the chance to see how their minds work as far as being able to give different tastes and feels of rhythm, on their instrument.
