ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor of Music in Education - Voice, Gordon College (2004)

Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy, Catholica University of America (2012)

Overview:

Michael T. Brown is a diverse performer, equally comfortable with everything from operatic literature to Scottish folk songs. On stage, he is regarded as a strong actor with a rich voice, and he is known for being a quick read. His opera roles have included Captain Fitzbattleaxe from Gilbert and Sullivan's Utopia Limited, Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus, Monostatos in Magic Flute, Peterman in M. Choufleuri, and numerous chorus and supporting roles. He has also performed in Scottish folk and folk rock bands as a singer, guitarist, Irish bouzouki player, and recording artist. He has earned a M.M. in Vocal Pedagogy at Catholic University's Benjamin T. Rome School of Music and a B.M. Ed. from Gordon College in Wenham, MA.

EXPERIENCE

Michael has over 8 years of experience teaching students from age 6 through adult, from directing large ensembles (70+) to private lessons.

He specializes in teaching singing, but also has taught beginning guitar and piano lessons, composition, music theory and history, and digital recording.

METHODS USED

Michael's approach to voice training is grounded in physiological and developmentally appropriate techniques.  While this does not necessarily preclude any particular style of music, he believes very strongly that vocal health and well-being should take precedence in one's study of singing and that it is good for students to gain a diverse musical experience.

LESSON STYLE

Lessons are geared towards student needs.  Beginning guitar and piano lessons follow standard curricula.  Voice lessons are usually 15-30 minutes of technique work  followed by 15-30 minutes of work on repertoire.
