I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students who love music and want to become better at their craft. I attended CCM at The University of Cincinnati where I study E-Media with a focus in music production. While in school I took countless classes in performance and study drums even further. Learning to play drums from a church background has helped me tremendously, I've had the opportunity to travel the world playing for some of the worlds best christian and gospel artists. I've shared the stage with Tye Tribbett, Jonathan Neslson, Jonathan Dunn, Tonya Baker, up and coming christian artist Darris Sneed and a number of gospel choirs just to name a few.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my teenager days, as I began to play in my high school marching band to began to understand rudiments and reading. So coming from church everything I played I could break it down into rudiments. I started teaching private lessons to the kids at my church and other churches, and its been about 9 years or so. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the main key points I like to emphasize to younger students or even anyone really serious about learning. I encourage my students to learn and listen to all styles of music and later I show them how they all accompany each other. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically like to start with rudiments and technique studies. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will introduce the Moeller method. Later will move to the drumset and apply all 3 methods and became to develop what I like to call he groove and bass excises and different warm ups. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson, I also ask the students what do you want to achieve today in this lesson, or this week. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
