I have been involved with music for over ten years, playing the alto saxophone in jazz and classical band ensembles. I am also studying music theory and performance at Pellissippi Community College. I am currently working on my associates in music, and l plan on working on to receive my bachelor's in music theory and composition. I am very passionate about music and I hope that I can spread the joy of music to anyone willing to take the extra steps to better themselves. I look forward to any students willing to put in the work.
Alto saxophone: 10 years of experience Piano: 4 years of experience Music Theory: 3 years of experience Clemson University: Pep band member, and the lead in the saxophone section in the Marching Band member for two years. Jazz ensembles: Five years of being in various groups Band Ensemble: 10 years of being a member in various ensembles, and the Knoxville Community Band for one year Private instructor: 2 years, I helped students with basics on how to play the saxophone in high school. Conducting: 1 year studied
For Beginning students, I start them off with scales Major and minor and 101 Rhythmic Rest Patterns by Grover C. Yaus, which expanded into pieces related to their key. If the student is interested, I can write a piece to play involving everything they learned. And advanced students I usually use: Selected Studies by H. Voxman, Foundation For superior Performance by Richard Williams and Jeff King, and still hit the basis of the basics. Lastly, for students who want to focus on Jazz, I use Jim Snidero's easy Jazz and then the advanced copy, as well as Charlie Parkers Omni book and Paul Desmond's solo transcription book.
Before I sit down to teach a student for their first lesson, I try and plan on what they aspire to learn either through a classical or jazz path and move to get into the details of everything. My goal is to make sure the students enjoy what they play and work on what they want to do. I make sure to stress the importance of improving and encouraging them every step of the way. I don't want to see students become frustrated with playing if they can not get something right and leave playing due to that. I want to make sure they keep coming back to learn and expand their talent.
