Overview:
I have an incredible passion for music and I believe that I pass that passion along to my students, helping them also develop a love for the technique and nuances that music contains. I was born in England and came to America to complete my Masters degree in Music at the age of 21. I have been teaching both in England and America collectively for 7 years and feel extremely confident in meeting the needs of every student I meet. A prospective student should know that I have two main goals for my students: To improve their musical ability and to love what they do.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching at Derby Yamaha Music School, UK, coaching classes and private lessons for voice and piano. After leaving England, I began teaching at Pladd Dot Music, Statesboro. Here, I taught many students both voice and piano. Two in particular required coaching in their respective pageant and regional championship. Working together on technique etc, the students gained the title of Miss Hummingbird, as well as qualification to Miss Georgia, and qualification to regional championship this summer (2016).
METHODS USED
In my voice lessons, I want to feel that the student is doing what they want to do, not just what I tell them. With this in mind, I work with the student to find songs or pieces that they want to try and sing. If it is an appropriate level of difficulty, we will work on it straight away. If it is a harder piece, We gradually work towards it, whilst simultaneously tackling other pieces with similar traits. For piano, I like to have a blend of book work (usually Faber and Faber) and extra curricular. If this means I am arranging a piece of popular music so that it is accessible to the student, then I will do that.
LESSON STYLE
My students will enjoy their lessons, especially if they are taking the time outside of the class to practice and hone in on their skills. My main attitude is that this should be a time away from traditional school or work, where a student can relax, have a good time and learn new techniques and nuances of music performance and theory.  I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement. No performance is perfect, but no mistake should be without encouragement. The practiceroom is a place where a student should be encouraged to try new things and dare to learn new music.

The best piano teacher my daughter has ever had. She took from Michael while he was at Pladdot music in Statesboro, GA. He was a very engaging teacher and was able to instill a lot of confidence in my daughter as a pianist. My daughter says it like this..."He never let me believe I couldn't do a song piece I liked no matter how difficult it was. He was patient to see me through until I mastered it. He also challenged me beyond what I thought was possible." Our only regret was that he had to move away:(

Michael taught our granddaughter Voice, but also coached her in onstage presentation getting her prepared for Jr. Beta Special Talent. Great coach!

I took Professor Michael P's "Intoduction to Music Technology" class during my first semester of college. This man is extremely patient and helpful because I am not always the best student when it comes to technology. I had a habit of accidentally deleting my work every class and he was always calm and encouraging when he helped me recover the information. He had an amazing way of connecting to the students. He made me feel welcomed and unafraid to participate in class when I was just a shy freshmen in one of my first classes in college. Not only is he welcoming, but he also has a great way of breaking down complicated concepts so that we would be able to understand. I think connecting and communication are the two biggest components to a good teacher and Professor Michael P certainly has both skills and demonstrated them to my entire class. Since my intro class, I have used the knowledge he has taught me in my every day life as a musician.

I took Michael's Music Technology class in 2016 at Georgia Southern. This class was required for my major, but I was not looking forward to taking it, for I have always had trouble with technology and I didn't think that I would be interested in the subject. I expressed my concerns to Michael and he was very supportive and encouraged me to communicate with him throughout the course for help whenever I needed it. Though I was nervous about the class, it ended up being one of my favorite classes. Though the content was difficult, Michael created such an interactive, fun, and approachable learning environment. Whenever I had any difficulties, he would work with me until I understood, and he never lost his patience. I learned so much in this class, and though I was concerned that I wouldn't do well, I ended up making an A. Michael truly is a phenomenal teacher, for he is very encouraging and positive, and promotes learning in fun ways. I am very fortunate to have been able to learn under such a great musician and teacher.

Michael is awesome! I started playing the piano last year, by takeing lessons with Michael. I was 22, which is not the ideal age to be starting, but Michael was super patient, understanding and explained things in a simple way. He can teach any age because he's an all around great teacher, and truly cares about your understanding of music while still keeping it fun. You wouldn't want start your music journey with anyone else, he's one of the greats !
