BS, SUNY New Paltz, Contemporary Music Studies and TV/Film Production
Overview:
I am a passionate music lover with many different interests. I play drum set, hand drums, piano, and a little bit of guitar. I graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Contemporary Music Studies and TV/Film Production. I have spent the years since college teaching both children and adults, playing music in several bands in the New York area, and traveling all over the world. I have visited and studied music in India, Ecuador, and Colombia. I am now back in New York City and looking to share the joy of music with those who are interested!
EXPERIENCE
I began to teach music when I was in college, giving private drum lessons to several students. Since graduating, I have spent time teaching at several different after school music programs, teaching drum set and piano to students of all ages. I found that I really enjoy communicating with students and helping them find their own passion for music. To me, music is about having fun - this is what I strive to bring out in our lessons! Finding ways to make lessons interesting to each individual is challenging but quite rewarding in the end.
METHODS USED
Like stated above, I strive to make my lessons fun and engaging above all else. Of course we need to also learn in the lesson, but I typically gage lesson plans around a student's areas of interest. Some people really enjoy learning from books and exercises, while others are more engaged learning songs and music that they listen to. Whatever your preferences are, we can tailor our lessons around them and find new ways to get you practicing and learning new material. I guarantee our lesson time will fly by because you'll be having so much fun :)
LESSON STYLE
The best way for students to improve their proficiency on an instrument is through consistent, weekly practice. In our lessons, we will discover overall musical goals and then weekly goals to help us achieve our dreams. Yes, the dedication must be put in by the student, but organized practice is the quickest way to truly improve. In my lessons, we will work on technique and sight reading as well as improvisation and learning songs. Finding the right balance between concentrated practice and having fun is essential to an effective lesson!
