I am an innovative and open-minded guitarist with a passion for music that allows my students to explore their own individual style and range of creativity so they can find their own comfort zone and take it to the next level. I came from St. Petersburg, Russia in 1993 and my parents were professional opera singers most of their lives. I got my first guitar 25 years ago and have been teaching off and on for about ten years. I believe in originality and make learning enjoyable and entertaining.
I started giving private lessons about ten years ago but have been playing the instrument for more than twenty, I have had quite a few students over the years including family and friends, beginners and intermediates are my favorite types of students but advanced players are welcome as well. It is important for me that my students are comfortable and I want them to have fun while learning and being creative in whatever type of music they are into most. It is very satisfying for me to see my students progress in a reasonable amount of time.
For any new student, I usually start with finding out what kind of music they like and what they can play on their instrument no matter what skill level they have, and that gives me an idea of what qualities are present and/or absent, and what the next step for improvement should be followed. Every student is unique and there's always room for more knowledge and practice, but it is important that they study the most useful techniques for that particular individual so it can accommodate their style.
Usually when I have a new student I ask them to play something for me that they know already whatever it may be so I can get an idea of what type of sound they are trying to achieve as well as what kind of technique they are using. The most important thing is not to mislead or discourage the student and I would point out what looks and sounds right and what needs improvement, from there I would determine what steps need to be taken to enhance or correct the student so they are headed in the right direction.
