The first lesson I ever gave was my junior year of high school. It was to a younger student down the hill at the middle school. A trombone lesson. At that moment I knew I wanted to teach. But not just music. I try to teach lessons of life as well. How to better yourself, how to help others, how to make people happy or remorseful, laugh, cry, dance, sing! All through music. Music brings people together. Music CAN and WILL make you a better person. I am here to show you how. Through my teachings I guarantee results.
When it comes to my beginning students I like to get them as comfortable with the instrument as possible. Give them the extra time that the band director doesn’t have to explore every inch of their instrument. Breathing, Long tones, counting, and just understanding what it is they are doing. I am very patient and nurturing when it comes to the younger ones. Big kids on the other hand. Fundamentals, scales, more scales. And just like the younger ones, know your instrument from top to bottom. I can make them play etudes till they are blue in the face but that’s not always the answer. The answer is fundamentals.
Seeing people succeed is one of my favorite things in the world. Seeing people succeed in music is my life. It all starts with encouragement, reinforcement, and practice! I can’t do it all myself. Students have to be willing to learn to succeed. Lucky I’ve never had a student that didn’t want to succeed. I know everyone learns at their own rate. And I am very patient with them. Like all music it has to be played one note at a time. Lastly I hope that I am able to inspire all aspiring musicians to just stick with it. It will get difficult at times and will be boring but trust me the lessons you will learn with me will last a lifetime.
