I have performed professionally for 17 years in bands that I've self managed, produced and performed in. I've also been a session recording musician and touring artist for a handful of indie artists throughout San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles. I have no degree but I do have traditional knowledge from my years in band in high school and a few courses in my attempt to go through college. I offer a direct understanding of the industry and of percussion and vocals/lyricism as a deep routed love.
I carry an endorsement for Magicroom Brand drumsticks based out of St. Louis and I have have performed as a contracted artist for the Qingdao International Beer festival in Qingdao, China.
I wholeheartedly love the act of writing and performing music. It is what brings me peace and it is what has lead me to the most beautiful places and experiences in my life. Sharing the knowledge that I have acquired as an artist is the ultimate way I can pay respects to the gift I've been blessed with and would love to inspire others to pursue or just enjoy for themselves! That being said I look forward to sharing what I know with those who would care to learn from some one of my demeanor and passion.
My teaching experience is 16 years deep starting with teaching drums and art in after school programs and to the point I have now in my day job where I work as a registered behavioral technician for Arcadia Unified School District in a moderate to severe autism classroom. I have a deep love for music and education, so bringing them together in my own way has been such a fulfilling experience. My experience working in public and private school from the position of art education to teaching Aide/behavioral Aide have helped me learn so much about my approach to sharing knowledge beyond just what I know musically.
For all of my students I start by allowing them to sit and feel the kit. Building a strong trusting relationship is important. I then proceed to dive into teaching simple 4/4 grooves to loosen the student up which processes into teaching basic rhythm studies and eventually the concepts of feel, groove, dynamics and of course timing. As session continue I evaluate students knowledge with song learning lessons and with critiques that's being with the positives and lead into where work can be done to improve.
I teach from a feel and improvisation stand point. I do start with basic rhythm studies but I love to allow for my students to explore the kit and their own comfort levels. It creates what I feel to be a sense of intimacy between them and the instrument. I believe that feeling comfortable with your instructor and your instrument harbor a much more positive and motivational learning impact on the student. I also pride myself on being flexible and quick to adjust to each of my students individual needs.
