ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Slippery Rock University, Music Education major

Overview:

I have been playing guitar and bass for 32 years, and I have studied with some of the most well-respected rock, classical and jazz musicians in the world, including Jeffery Mangone (principal bassist of the Pittsburgh Opera), Jeff Grubbs (bassist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra), jazz great Dwayne Dolphin, Dino Fiumara (owner/founder of BSX Bass), Joey Granati (G-Force, Granati Brothers), and Berklee School of Music graduate Rick Mals.

EXPERIENCE

Over 13 years of instructing at music stores in Pittsburgh and New Castle, I have taught over 10,000 lessons to 400+ students.  Through my years of playing experience as a live performer, teacher, songwriter and session musician, I have gained experience in many genres including: jazz, blues, classic rock, metal, reggae, country, punk, rockabilly, pop, R&B, classical, honky-tonk, funk, and hard rock.

METHODS USED

There is not one specific method that I use to teach; I use combinations of various methods which I have learned over the years, and I tailor the lessons to best fit each individual student's level and what they are interested in musically.  While I recommend learning to read music, I will not force anyone to do it if they don't want to.  And just remember, even Jimi Hendrix couldn't read music.

LESSON STYLE

Some people strive to play like their guitar/bass heroes and to know all there is to know about music and music theory, while others just want to entertain themselves, their friends and family.  Let's face it, nobody decides to learn a musical instrument just so that they can play scales...you want to play songs!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
