My teaching experience begins as early as 9th grade. I started teaching middle school sectionals to 7th and 8th graders. I would help with tonal and technical work, as well as their band pieces. Once I began my senior year in high school, I started to lead and teach my high school sectionals. As well as the freshman level band and do their sectionals twice to three times a week. When I graduated high school in 2015, I was hired formally to become the flute instructor for Milwaukie High School's flute section and to work with them once a week. As I gained reputation, I started teaching students privately and now have experience working with over 20 different kinds of middle and high school students. I am able to explain the world of music to lots of kind of brain types! I knew teaching was for me when I hit 9th grade and taught at the middle school, there was nothing more that gave me as much join and happiness than teaching music, especially flute!

I always start off my very first lesson, (or a very long time since seeing that student) with a piece of their choice to showcase their ability and level of playing and another I hand them to sight read. That way I can assign the right material at their playing level and start letting them know what books they will need to buy for future lessons. When i have heard them play, I go through my gallery of music and pull out tonal, technical, and everything in between to start outlining what we will be working on for months. When I feel as though as they have a good understanding of everything basic on flute, I start to add in a solo and find a location where the can perform it.
