2009-2013 – Presidential Music Scholarship at Bryan College
2013 – Performed with the Chattanooga Orchestra at Bryan College
Overview:
Music is a passion of mine, and I’m so thankful I have the opportunity to share it with others! In 2013 I graduated from Bryan College with a BS in Piano Performance. I was blessed with many performance opportunities during college, including piano recitals, musical showcases, accompanying performers and chamber ensemble music. Although I enjoy performing, teaching is my first passion. Since beginning teaching during my senior year of high school, I have continued to grow in knowledge and skill so that I can be the most effective piano teacher for all ages.
EXPERIENCE
My love for piano teaching began my senior year of high school, 7 years ago. I enjoy teaching out of my home studio, for I believe it provides a welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for my students. During lessons, I emphasize consistent weekly practice times, music genre variety, theory, improvisation and parent involvement in the lesson plans. Recitals have proven to be very helpful in building the students’ confidence and awareness of their personal and musical improvement.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, the Faber & Faber series or the Alfred series are recommended as a core repertoire. A Dozen A Day is recommended for daily warm-ups and I also provide the students with supplementary songs and books of their choice, such as Disney, pop, jazz and popular classical pieces transcribed for beginner piano. For adult students, I use the Faber & Faber method book that provides an overall comprehensive and fast pace lesson style. After the adult has learned the basics, we can narrow in and focus on the style of their choice!
LESSON STYLE
Providing a comfortable, yet focused lesson time while actively pursuing excellence are prime objectives! Each student progresses at a different pace, so lessons are designed according to the strengths and weaknesses of each individual. Personal accomplishment is key to the students’ motivation, so it’s important to set maintainable weekly and monthly goals, in addition to performance pieces and recital opportunities.
