I have been in the entertainment business since I was 7 years old, appearing in the movie "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush". I did a 4 year degree course at The University Of Hertfordshire in Musical Theater and went on to be a hit songwriter. In the 90's I was signed by Simon Cowell to his record company in London. I also sang back up for Sir Paul McCartney and The Spice Girls. As a teacher, I am supportive and encouraging. Being a singer myself I understand how to maintain my voice amid the stresses of being working vocalist. Students will benefit from my experience and my teaching technique.
I have been teaching people to sing for over 20 years.Originally, I am from the UK but for the last 7 years I have been teaching in Freehold NJ. I have converted my garage into a "high tech" teaching and recording studio. As a working vocalist, I am very aware of the importance of taking care of one's voice. It is my instrument and I treat it with the same care and I respect as I would any other instrument. I am a former judge of "Freehold Idol" where I was known as the "friendly" Simon Cowell (I have a British accent ... and I'm friendly):) I record all my students in my studio and often co- write with them or help them learn to write their own original songs.
I have been told by my students that am as much a coach as I am an instructor. I make lessons fun and informative. I am always respectful and understand that students progress at different speeds. After 3 months with me students can expect to have better pitch, better breath control and more confidence all round. I use my own curriculum and record each student to CD. This means the student can take the lesson home and continue the learning process there. Recently I have been teaching online and I've been enjoying it very much. Online lessons provide both student and coach the opportunity to explore creative solutions to help the lesson flow. For those of you who are on the fence about the idea of learning singing skills online with a vocal coach, it helps to point out some of the positive features for online voice lessons. One of the greatest benefits of using the internet is that you are no longer restricted by geography when searching for a vocal coach online. If you have been dreaming of taking singing lessons with that famous opera teacher from Milan – you now can! Being able to expand your pool of potential voice teachers allows you to choose from local coaches to master teachers. It also gives you an even greater chance of finding someone who shares your same passion for the music you love to sing, someone who can hone your singing voice in the direction you want to go, and someone who is a great match for your vocal range and style. Online singing lessons save you both time and energy. Our time is more important to us than ever in this busy and hectic world. By taking lessons online at home, you will save time driving to and from lessons. Traffic congestion in some areas can add an additional 30-60 minutes driving to and from lessons. Commutes can cause additional stress to our already stress-filled lives. Online lessons take place in the convenience of the vocal coach’s office or home. This makes the online lessons, generally, less expensive than the more traditional music lessons. In addition, students or parents don’t have to worry about spending their hard-earned cash on buying gas and traveling to and from lessons. Saving both time and money means you are more likely to be fully committed to your lessons and less likely to cancel them. Being able to record your online singing lessons, is a definite advantage. You can use your recordings to chart your progress and encourage you. You can review these recordings to check if you are practicing correctly and to listen to the invaluable advice from your teacher or coach. Whether you need a sharp reminder about nailing that lip trill, improving your chest voice, or perfecting your ear training, recording and keeping your lessons for future reference is highly beneficial. While most teachers allow students to record face-to-face lessons, few students go to the extra work of making recordings. However, it’s a piece of cake to record your online lessons. Because online vocal lessons take place in your own home, you can use the time it would have taken to commute to your coach’s location to warm up for your online lesson. You will be less stressed and ready to take full advantage of your lessons. Being more prepared and relaxed before your lesson is more likely to yield better results. It isalso less likely to cause frustration which can lead to giving up taking further lessons. It is both difficult and dangerous to warm up while driving to your lesson in a car. .
Several of my students have gone on to have careers in the music industry. One of my students is Candi Lynn who was kind enough to give me a "shout out " on the sleeve notes of her first CD. http://www.candilynn.com/ I set realistic goals for my students and I'm always honest. Success is 90 percent perspiration and 10 percent inspiration. Hard work always pays off. I work to find out what a student's strengths are and help develop them. My lessons are fun, but you won't get an easy ride. If I feel you have potential I will push you. I am only as succesful as a coach as my students are as vocalists.
Mick has been great with my 15 yesr old son. He challenges him and pushing him to his potential. My son enjoys his time with Mick!
