Overview:
I began playing in the seventh grade, and was all-state by the tenth grade. My Bachelor's of Music Ed, and my Master's of Music in Performance are from LSU-Monroe where I was principle in both band and orchestra, and lead trombone in the jazz ensemble. I have taught band in both public and private schools, and have served as Music Director in two churches. I have approximately 30 years experience teaching privately. I am positive and encouraging in my approach to teaching, and make lessons fun and interesting.
EXPERIENCE
I have been the band director at Briarfield Academy, Ouachita Parish Middle School, and Prairie View Academy, and have served as Music Director at two churches. I have taught privately since college. >Have performed with: Bob Hope, Sonny and Cher, Barnum and Bailey's, Holiday on Ice, USO Tour of Europe, Tom Jones, The Monroe Symphony, New Life Band, The Atlanta Swing Orchestra, Sentimental Journey Orchestra, and The Atlanta Trombone Ensemble, The Georgia Symphony. I am currently singing and playing as a soloist, and in a duo. /p>
METHODS USED
I teach all aspects of brass playing: air control, embouchure development, articulation, tone, range, and musical interpretation of all styles.
I teach a complete understanding of the guitar fretboard.
I incorporate music theory and an understanding of chord structure in all lessons, and for all instruments that I play and teach.
I have played in a wide variety of musical groups from symphony to jazz and rock, so I can direct my teaching toward the styles that you enjoy.
I always keep my tone positive.
