Overview:
I'm an experienced instructor and drummer from Silver Spring, Maryland. I have been playing the drums since age six and I have been teaching drum lessons since I was fifteen. I have preformed and recorded with many different bands of many different styles of music throughout my musical career. I currently play with a Rock/Reggae group named Dale and the ZDubs which tours up and down the East Coast playing venues like the 930 club, The Norva, Ziggy's, Rams Head, Brooklyn Bowl, The Knitting Factory and more.
EXPERIENCE
I began to teach drum lessons as a freshman in High School and I haven't looked back since! Teaching has always come naturally to me because my father taught cello lessons at home for my entire childhood . I have combined his teaching styles with my own philosophies, experience and habits throughout my young and extensive musical career. I also have been taking drum lessons since age six from four different drum instructors. Each of them have taught me many things that will be ingrained in my drumming for the rest of my life. I'm very thankful for my upbringing because being submerged in music my whole life has made me into a well rounded musician and music teacher.
METHODS USED
First of all, I believe that drumming is the most enjoyable passion and talent of my life. I strive to have my students feel the same way. Most projects in life are based around a strong and firm foundation and drumming is no different. The foundation of drumming is based around time, rudiments and grooves. I strive to teach all of my students to be very well rounded on these three foundation pieces with as many styles of music as possible. I use sheet music, drum less play-alongs, repetition and "drumming games" to teach these foundations.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching has always been something that I just simply love to do. There is nothing better than watching a student gradually gain skills, knowledge and success. Teaching students also helps me to become a better musician. Sometimes a student can teach me something about myself either as a teacher, drummer or even as a person. A skill I have learned from my students is to be able to pick up if my teaching methods aren't breaking through to a student. For example, one student might learn better from reading off sheet music first try while the other might learn better from listening to that same music played first. It doesn't matter how a student learns, the only thing that matters is that they do.

We've had a few lessons with Miles and very pleased. Child has learned a lot in the past few weeks. Teaching style is great and it combines playing with reading/understanding music/notes. Exactly what we were looking for.
