Empire School of Piano Technology.
I started Piano lessons at 6 and quickly received classical training to 12 years old. I have been playing professionally since 14 years old. I have enjoyed a freelance career as a music teacher, composer. performer, recording engineer. producer, and a multi instrumentalist. While being exposed to the intricacies of many styles of music growing up, I have developed a life long passion for studying those different genres. I attended Edward Williams College and Fairleigh Dickenson University where I studied Piano and Guitar, and graduated with an Associates Degree in Media Arts.
My teaching experience started early on as a recognized multi instrumentalist even by my friends , I was able to teach them and put musical groups together or join existing ones. Playing various instruments in several different bands at the same time was a challenge but lots of fun, and has continued as of recently. I have played throughout the US and parts of Europe, while also teaching. I studied jazz guitar with Vik Juris and Berklee graduate Dave Rubin. I have worked with Whitney Houston, and Lyle Mays of the Pat Metheny group. I have been teaching from my my home studio for 12 years. I have 20+ years experience teaching all ages from 6 to 80.
Books I use for teaching Piano is the Piano Adventures series of books by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is a great lesson book and a good basic piano method for beginners through intermediate level students. For guitar I use the Hal Leonard Incredible Chord Finder and the Warren Nunes Jazz guitar Rhythm and Background Chords and the Solo Patterns book. Also For both Piano and Guitar I have accumulated many charts and Berklee School of Music pages to use as students start to progress. I will also write out what is covered in the lessons for home study when necessary. I teach improvisation and music theory also.
I facilitate all lessons primarily for the individual student. Beginning with where ever they are starting at. Their individual goals, and how much practice time they have available. I like to make the lessons interesting, educational and enjoyable. Everyone is different and unique. And we all learn at our own pace. There is a creative process to music and I will go over the how and why of a section or an entire arrangement. In the end it is about the student improving and taking their creativity and love of music in any direction they want.
I started with Miles as a beginner on Guitar and now 3 years later I am playing in a group !!! He was patient and went along at a pace that helped me get better over time. Miles has helped me to stay motivated and continue to learn and build on ever increasing material.
man’s awesome at what he does, always manages to get a lesson in every session You should choose him
I honestly did not know what to expect. We did 3 season of sports and my son was not happy. So here we are. My 8 year old son had his first piano lesson with Miles N. and to my surprise my son enjoyed himself. He was so happy he told everyone in the house what he learned. He was excited!!!! Miles N was kind and patient with him. So I book more lessons and i can not wait to see where it goes from here.
I learned how to play more advanced solo patterns that work over the chords. I am now learning practical music theory. Miles is able to help me understand how to apply in a usable way. I've learned so much. I highly recommend Miles !
My son has been taking lessons from Miles for just about a year. Miles is patient and kind and my son always looks forward to spending time with him. Additionally, my son is learning to play guitar with confidence.
