My name is Milos and I have been teaching clarinet for the past twelve years, both in the public schools and summer programs in Serbia and in the United States. I hold a Masters Degree in Clarinet Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, Cambridge MA. Currently, I am an Artist Diploma student at Longy School of Music. My former students won many prizes in the national and the international competitions. I have been regularly performing formal recitals and concerts across the USA, Europe, and Serbia. Furthermore, in the area of professional development, I have attended a numerous number of master classes with distinguished professors such as Wenzel Fuchs, Gabor Varga, Frank Cohen, Yuan Yuan, Jonathan Cohler, Philippe Cuper, Mate Bekavac, Paul Mayer. I have been engaged in a wider music community in Serbia and USA as a volunteer clarinet instructor to children with disabilities.
As an educator, I'm a dedicated pedagogue. I like to encourage students to think, work, study, and practice the instrument on their own, not only in the class. My leitmotif is "I can't teach you anything, I can only make you think”. As a teacher of clarinet at the music school "Vatroslav Lisinski", my career dates back to 2006. My students have so far won 49 first, 16 second and 2 third prizes in the national and the international competitions. Hence, the Association of Music and Ballet Pedagogues of Serbia awarded me with the Best Pedagogue of the Year Award in 2012. Currently, I work at the Dana Hall Music School, Wellesley; the Maestro Musicians Academy; and the Kometa Serbian children's program.
Since 2009, I worked with a distinguished Professor Mate Bekavac on specialized approaches to the standards of music pedagogy. As a result, I have developed a teaching method, which combines ‘awareness instruction method’, with basic teachings in music. This method teaches students how to think, work, study, and practice by themselves so that they can become independent musicians. Additionally, my community engagements with children with disabilities taught me compassion and patience. Working with children is one of my big passions. I am a friendly, patient, and motivated teacher and I am confident that my knowledge and experience from various social and professional contexts I have worked in qualify me to carry out the tasks on the level required by this job.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.
