Behind every good concert artist is a fabulous music educator. Having had my share of world class instructors, I understand the significant role that a teacher plays in the emotional, mental, and musical development of a student. In Nashville, I play for special events at the Nashville Symphony and at private events and galas in the Greater Nashville Area. In France, I studied with world famous artists and pedagogues, earning a teaching legacy that is only five piano professors away from Ludwig van Beethoven.
I began teaching in high school and continued throughout college. Due to my experience and coursework in piano pedagogy techniques, I have a significantly high student retention rate. A combination of study and hands-on learning has increased my awareness of a student's individual needs. I have led choral ensembles and coached private students for music competitions.
The method used for teaching a student how to enjoy music should be practical, intuitive, and natural. I begin by training a student how to listen (in the same way that a child would hear words before he could speak). From that point, a student learns to "speak" or play musical sentences. Finally, the reading skills are developed. Through this approach, musical literacy is founded and then the art of mastering the instrument begins by developing sensitivity and fine musicianship. The curriculum is based on the Suzuki method, with an emphasis on standard concert repertoire and traditional methods interspersed.
My teaching style is open-minded, enriched with kind, positive words, and based on clarity. I find that the best teaching style is one that anticipates the student's needs and guides him or her on a stable, rigorous, and inspiring musical journey. The goal is to build a fearless, fun-loving, and mature student of the arts who is confident in his or her ability.
I have developed specific techniques to deal with performance anxiety, physical limitations, and common musical challenges.
