Overview:
I am a life long lover of music and have played violin and piano since the age of 5 and began trombone in 5th grade school band. I fell in love with the trombone and love to keep up with my other instruments, I also love to arrange and compose music. I love sharing my love of music with others and watching children blossom into their musical selves is always a great journey. I've played both in Boston's Symphony Hall in a symphony orchestra as well as at Sculler's Jazz Club with a small jazz quartet. I love all genres of music and have my own ska band as well that I love rocking out with.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching when I was a freshman in High School and I continued with a full-time load of students throughout all four years because of how much I loved it! Eventually adding some beginner adult students into my rotation of kids as well! I taught a few college level students throughout my college years whenever I could and took on summer students during my breaks! Now that I am done with college I am very excited to begin teaching students of all ages again and sharing my love and appreciation of music with them.
METHODS USED
My methods vary for each instrument so I have given a basic outline of my techniques below: For beginning students who are children I start with the basics, how do you play this funny musical instrument! I have a few different books I turn to based on the student. For beginner adults I have a more technical approach to teaching the basics and will focus on what you really want to learn and get out of your lessons. For more advanced students I have a variety of books that I use for technique and theory as well as solo pieces we can learn for recitals and auditions.
LESSON STYLE
For children my teaching style is very reward based, I love stickers so always give them one once they've mastered their song for the week and such. Lots of encouragement and positive feedback and working through the difficult things in a positive manner. For adults I will teach based on you! If you are really looking for a fun hobby with the music we will be more laid back and relaxed with it and can bounce around and learn all sorts of different things! If you are looking to get into being a serious musician or are preparing for an audition we will focus on technique and sound as well as preparing any materials you have required and also working through a list of repertoire that will grow at your pace, will still be a lot of fun though!
