I am an extremely experienced musician with over 30 years of musical training! I hold a Master of Music Education from West Virginia University as well as a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I have taught music in public schools for approximately 10 years. Additionally, I am certified in teaching PK-12 Music in various states. I am also a member of NAfME: National Association for Music Education. I look forward to working with you :)
EXPERIENCE
I have been a private instructor for over fifteen years and have brought my students much success in their musical endeavors. I have performed in solo recitals, competitions, chamber ensembles, bands, and orchestras in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Ohio, and West Virginia. I am also is the recipient of various music scholarships and the winner of several different clarinet competitions. Additionally, my students have received superior ratings at local and state Solo & Ensembles, selected as All-State band members, received top chair placements, and much more!
METHODS USED
I have my students spend a great deal of time on rhythmic accuracy, scales, and sight-reading. I create my own lesson plans and provide students with a variety of instructional materials. Students begin each lesson with rhythmic drills and scales with gradual increases in difficulty levels. I prefer using Rubank method books and the Klose Complete Method for the clarinet. Students are always free to bring in music from their school band program and/or solos and etudes of their choice. I like to conclude each lesson with a fun duet.
LESSON STYLE
I believe it is imperative to create a positive, musical learning environment for my students and cultivate their love for music. My lessons are individualized and tailored to meet the individual student's musical goals, level and learning style. I provide each student with a practice sheet to monitor their progress. Different students have different skill levels and different needs. Therefore, I assign each student a realistic, attainable goal for each lesson. I give my students the tools for success and encourage them to reach every goal.
