I am a passionate and motivated teacher who loves working with students and sharing my experience of music. In 2015, I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance. In 2018, I graduated from Louisiana State University with Master of Music in Violin Performance. I recently moved to New York City to get some opportunity as a teacher and performer in big city. I am working as teaching artist in Noel Pointer Foundation and I have been teaching in PS.18, PS.19, PS.44, PS.68 in Staten Island for after school violin program. I have 6 years teaching experience and I have my own curriculum which helps students to have fun to play violin and solid curriculum. I am also giving students positive energy to enjoy playing violin.
My teaching experience started from my college days. I began teaching private lesson in Arizona State University String Project for two years and had been teaching students 10 students from the age of 5 to 18. I encourage regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I recommend to students. In order to gain a passion for the instrument, I have taught a combination of classical and pop music. This helps students progress and gain passion for practice, too. My motto of teaching is teacher has to give motivation and sharing of my musical idea to students have consistent interest of playing violin. That is my motto I have been thinking. I am looking forward to have fun with students.
For beginning students who are children. I typically start with Suzuki Violin Book or Hal Leonard's Essential elements. Once the students has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce some repertoire they can perform. For adults, I try to find out what music the students are interested in and as teaching basic skills, I will teach music what they would like to perform. Also I will guide my instruction to encourage their interest of playing violin so they can have fun with playing violin, not get stress about practicing violin.
I approach students with some humor and wit to open up their mind to me. I always try to make my students feel comfortable with me and bond with me which I think it is very important in teaching. I encourage to set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Setting goals for every lesson will help them to feel achievement that would give them a motivation to be passionate with violin. As a teacher, I encourage students to be confident. Not only that, by figuring out what inspires students, I teach to fill their wants and needs.
Sunny made violin lessons easy and fun. I think it was the best lesson experience ever :)
