Hello! My name is Nadine F. and I am orginally from Washington, DC born and raised. With a mother who is a visual artist and a father who is a musician, music has been important to my upbringing and family from a young age. I began playing flute at age 4 and continue to pursue it professionally to this day. I also have been teaching music for the past 5 years including piano, flute, acting, and choir. I love mixing and experimenting with different musical rhythms and styles as I think this is the beauty of music and its evolution. I look forward to working with you!
I have over 5 years of teaching experience working with a variety of communities and age groups internationally and locally. This has allowed me the flexibility to truly cater my teaching style to the needs of each and every student, and be culturally competent realizing that every student learns differently and has different needs. I have conducted a children's choir as well and have played music professionally for over 15 years. I also am an actress where I have acted in a variety of films and theater projects across the city.
I teach through positive reinforcement and encouragement with a set structure that allows for discipline and certain benchmarks that can determine success and mastery of certain skills. I truly believe that when students are nurtured and given a comfortable space they will excel as creating music and art is vulnerable and requires the student to let go. This cannot happen unless the teacher facilitates an environment and space for organic innovation by the student. I think that there is a balance of pushing your students to their limits without being discouraging and hurtful, but rather through encouragement and bringing out their gifts.
