I'm a drummer, percussionist, composer and bandleader with a strong command in the Jazz, Latin and Rock musical vocabularies. My versatility and musicality has taken me to learn and collaborate with Grammy Award winners Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci and George Garzone, as well as performing on countless stages of the international music scene.
In 2010 I had the opportunity to be part of the eminent and highly acclaimed Berklee Global Jazz Institute under the artistic direction of GRAMMY AWARD winner, pianist and composer Danilo Perez. As a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute, in 2011 I had the privilege and honor to perform with GRAMMY AWARD and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Wayne Shorter, as well as GRAMMY AWARD winners, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington and George Garzone at the Global Jazz Summit For Humanity and Peace event.
The same year I graduated from Berklee College of Music (Summa Cum Laude) and had the privilege to perform with GRAMMY AWARD and Latin Jazz Master Chucho Valdez at the The 2011 Berklee Commencement Concert. Ever since I moved to NYC, I have had preformed at some of the most important music venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, 55 Bar, Tomi Jazz Club, The Metropolitan Room, The Bitter End as well as international Jazz Festivals such as The Heineken Jazz Festival in Puerto Rico.
I have been teaching private drums lessons for more than 15 years now. My students have been from all ages and different proficiency levels, which has given me the experience of adapting myself to a variety of the students' learning approaches. My academic teaching experience also encompasses teaching as:
*Assistant for Undergraduate Small Jazz Ensembles at The City College of New York 2012-2014.
*Drumset/Ensemble Instructor at MM-Summer/ Winter Music Camp with students of ages 7-16 since 2014.
*Accompanist/ Ensemble Assistant in the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music.
My teaching system is directly related to the student's proficiency level in combination with their musical goals. When it comes to entry level learning, I believe that music is a language, and as such it is very important to develop the ear (call and response, ear Training methods), along with the theory (Technique) in the most organic and natural way. In the other side of the spectrum at the advanced level, I like to personalize the material as well as the musical literature based on the topics, concepts and interests that the student is trying to achieve. With that in mind, the list of drum methods and exercises that I use is very diverse and always targeted to all my students' musical needs.
My teaching approach is very relaxed and focused at the same time. I always strive to make every lesson motivating and fun, depending on the level and the interests of each student. Often times I like to discuss and converse with my students about parallel topics of life as analogies to create a more comprehensive and cohesive understanding of any given assignment or concept that the students are trying to achieve or learn. As a result, I truly enjoy to see when the students feel motivated, and how gratifying is for me as a teacher to observe their musical evolution through a friendly learning process.
