Overview:

I’m an enthusiastic and driven instructor with an immense passion for inspiring students and sharing my love of music! My journey began in 1979 when I started Lessons as a young girl. In 1987 and I started teaching Piano, went off to college after graduation attended UC Davis and Corbin University as well as Shasta college. Moved to Georgia seven years ago and open my studio, Miss Nancy Academy of music, which has been a big success! Each music student and performance has been an unforgettable adventure!

EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience began during my college years, as I commenced providing private lessons on a part-time basis eight years ago. For the past five years, I have been devoted to teaching students in my home studio. I emphasize the importance of regular practice on a consistent schedule, particularly for younger students, as this approach significantly contributes to their progress and fosters a passion for the instrument. I have also observed that incorporating a mix of classical and contemporary music greatly enhances students' enjoyment of the piano, thereby motivating them to practice and continue their learning journey. If a student is not deriving enjoyment from their lessons, I recognize that I have not fulfilled my responsibilities effectively. My students are encouraged to participate in competitions and recitals, as well as to engage in composing their own original works, which allows them to take pride in their accomplishments and maintain their motivation. I am continually seeking to welcome new students of all ages into my program.
METHODS USED

When working with beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Alfred series. This method offers a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, note reading, and instrumental techniques. As the student gains confidence and develops a solid understanding of these basics, I gradually introduce them to solo repertoire that is well-suited for their first recital performance. This not only helps them apply what they’ve learned but also builds their performance skills and stage presence. For adult students, I take a different approach by first assessing their musical interests and goals. Whether they are drawn to classical pieces, contemporary songs, or even specific genres like jazz or folk, I tailor my instruction to align with their preferences. This personalized strategy helps maintain their motivation and makes lessons enjoyable, regardless of their current skill level. By incorporating their chosen music into our sessions, I aim to foster a passion for learning and create a fun, engaging environment where they can thrive.

LESSON STYLE

There is nothing more fulfilling for me than witnessing one of my students discover and nurture a genuine passion for music! To foster this enthusiasm, it is crucial that each student is allowed to progress at their own individual pace. I achieve this by establishing realistic, attainable goals for each lesson, which are tailored to the specific needs and skill levels of my students. Recognizing and celebrating accomplishments—no matter how small—plays a vital role in maintaining a student’s motivation and enthusiasm. This positive reinforcement not only fuels their desire to improve but also cultivates a sense of pride in their achievements, making them eager to take on new challenges and explore more complex concepts. In addition, I strive to understand what inspires each student on a personal level. By identifying their interests and preferences, whether it be a particular genre of music or a certain instrument, I can customize my teaching approach to better align with their wants and needs. This personalized instruction creates a more engaging learning environment and encourages students to delve deeper into their musical journey.
